From 2008 to 2010, Volokitin was a grantee of Ya Gallery Art Center. Volokitin is a laureate of the main PinchukArtPrize and, in 2010, was shortlisted for the Future Generation Art Prize. That same year, he undertook an internship in the studio of Antony Gormley in London. In 2015, he was one of the artists representing Ukraine at the 56th La Biennale di Venezia.
Volokitin’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in the study of the human being — in fact, his curiosity often centering on his own family (he is the father of five children). For Volokitin, painting embodies truth, a source of strength and authenticity.
Volokitin works primarily in the traditional medium of oil painting, though he occasionally turns to photography, objects, and installation. His practice successfully balances between contemporary and traditional art, the conceptual and the realistic.
His paintings reflect a desire to grasp the nature and essence of beauty, phenomena, and the human being. As the artist himself notes: “The theme of age, growing up, and change runs like a red thread through my work”. While in his practice, he strives “to speak of the hope that exists”.
